Imagine a day when the energy of the Sun is at its peak—offering a powerful opportunity to cleanse, heal, and recharge. Ratha Saptami, also known as the Sun’s Birthday (Surya Jayanti), is an ancient Vedic tradition that marks the transition of the Sun towards the northern hemisphere, symbolizing a new cycle of vitality and well-being.
The most powerful way to observe this day is by taking a purifying bath before sunrise during a special time called Arunodaya—a window that starts approximately 1.5 hours before sunrise at your location.
Since this timing varies depending on where you are, download the align27 app to get your personalized Arunodaya timing based on your location.
Sacred Water Ritual. While beginning your shower, invoke the energy of sacred rivers such as the Ganges and Yamuna by chanting: “Gange Cha Yamune Chaiva, Godavari Sarasvati, Narmade Sindhu Kaveri, Jalesmin Sannidhim Kuru.”
Note: Traditionally, seven Arka (Calotropis) leaves are placed on specific parts of the body—one on the head, two on the shoulders, two on the knees, and two on the feet—during the bath. This practice is believed to invoke the Sun God’s blessings.
If you are unable to procure these leaves, do not worry just keep an intention and do these rituals.
Just as the Sun rises, listen to or chant the Aditya Hrudayam and offer a simple water oblation (Arghya) to the Sun:
Each planet resonates with an avatar of Lord Vishnu and the Sun is connected to Lord Ram. You can do the Ram Guided Meditation by Gurudev available for free on the Sattva App.
Donate to someone in need —especially someone you don’t know personally, as it is believed to bring immense blessings.
These rituals bring health, abundance, and success. Ratha Saptami is also known as Arogya Saptami (The Day of Health) because it is believed to help release ailments and promote well-being at a deep level.
